White Sunset #3
Karolina Sussland
Working notes
The sunsets I paint refer to the ideal sunset that attracted my
parents to defect to Arizona in the 1980s. It was the beautiful
pictures of the western horizon, depicted in ARIZONA HIGHWAYS magazine,
that mesmerized my parents and convinced them that Phoenix,
not Sydney Australia, was the place to live.
Their preoccupation with the fantasy renderings of sunsets shaped the
rest of our lives and my understanding of life in a democratic
republic, monetized through tourism.
